Barrels of oil. If you think you know what this is and have ever wondered about the amount of energy contained in a barrel of crude oil, then you'll like to know about BOE. A BOE or "barrels of oil equivalent" is usually a barrel of oil plus 6 times million cubic feet of gas. Because not all natural gas has the same amount of BTU in it, some companies use 5.9 MCF or 5.8 MCF to equal 1 BOE. US and Canadian companies usually report in barrels and MCF; Russian companies report in tons of oil and million cube meters of gas. So a lot of conversions take place when comparing countries' BOE.
Difference in reporting metrics is common amongst different countries when conducting multi-country market sizing and assessments - regardless of industry.
